Vietnam on Tuesday launched a sweeping infrastructure drive with the groundbreaking or inauguration of around 250 projects nationwide to spur economic growth, according to Bloomberg News. The government is funding 129 projects worth VND 478 trillion (USD 18 billion), spanning urban development, transportation, and research facilities, while another 121 projects totaling USD 30.5 billion from other sources, including foreign investors, are also underway, a government statement said. Key ventures include the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge in the Mekong Delta, the Saigon Marina International Financial Center, Viettel’s R&D Center, and Vingroup’s National Exhibition and Convention Center in Hanoi. The push comes as Vietnam strives to meet its ambitious GDP growth target of at least 8% this year amid global headwinds and pending details of a U.S. trade deal that will impose a 20% tariff on Vietnamese goods.
