Pending home sales in the United States increased 6.1% month-over-month in March 2025, the greatest monthly gain since December 2023 and way above forecasts of 1%. Sales soared 9.8% in the South and expanded 4.9% in the Midwest. Meanwhile, the Northeast PHSI dipped 0.5% and the West index climbed 4.8%. “Home buyers are acutely sensitive to even minor fluctuations in mortgage rates,” said NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun. “While contract signings are not a guarantee of eventual closings, the solid rise in pending home sales implies a sizable build-up of potential home buyers, fueled by ongoing job growth.”
