Mortgage application volumes in the US jumped by 11% from the previous week on the period ending May 2nd, trimming the three consecutive slumps from earlier in the month. Applications for a mortgage to purchase a new home were 11% higher. In turn, applications for a contract to refinance a mortgage, which are more sensitive to short-term changes in borrowing costs, also rose by 11%, carried by a 26% surge Veterans Affairs loans.
