The annual inflation rate in Taiwan rose slightly to 1.54% in July from 1.37% in the previous month, halting a three-month streak of declines but remaining below the central bank’s 2% target. The uptick was primarily driven by faster price increases in food (2.91% vs 2.82% in June), largely due to Typhoon Danas and heavy rainfall, alongside stronger gains in education and entertainment (1.45% vs 0.6%). A slower decline in transportation and communication prices (-0.89% vs -1.36%) also contributed. In contrast, price growth moderated in miscellaneous goods and services (2.06% vs 2.21%), housing (1.75% vs 1.76%), and health (1.66% vs 1.89%). Meanwhile, prices declined at a faster pace in clothing (-1.19% vs -0.87%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.24% in July, the fastest pace in six months, accelerating from a 0.01% increase in June.
