Sri Lanka's trade deficit widened to USD 395.6 million in March 2025, compared to USD 359.2 deficit million in the same month of last year. Exports rose 8.1% YoY to USD 1,241.7 million, driven by increases in agricultural products (17.3%), particularly for tea, coconut, and spices; and industrial goods (6%), reflecting sharp increase in food, beverages, tobacco and textiles & garments. Meanwhile, imports grew 8.6% YoY to USD 1,637.3 million, driven by higher spending on consumer goods (35.1%) and investment goods (39.4%). However, this was partially offset by a decline in intermediate goods (-5.4%).
