Norway's trade surplus narrowed to NOK 54 billion in July 2025 from NOK 59.2 billion in the same month a year ago, as exports declined while imports rose. Exports fell by 3.1% year-on-year to NOK 142.2 billion, largely due to lower sales of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials (-7.7%), manufactured goods classified chiefly by material (-4.9%), and chemicals and related products n.e.s. (-4.9%). Norway’s exports are under pressure amid external uncertainties, particularly from the 15% US tariff on goods and an additional 50% surcharge on steel and aluminum that could weigh on shipments. Meanwhile, imports increased by 0.8% to NOK 88.2 billion, primarily driven by an increase in imports of machinery and transport equipment (11.5%), miscellaneous manufactured articles (4.1%), and food and live animals (14.8%). For the first seven months of the year, the country’s trade surplus reached NOK 431.3 billion, up 2.9% from the same period in the previous year.
