The Netherlands’ trade surplus narrowed to EUR 10.25 billion in June 2025, from EUR 11.9 billion in the same month last year. Imports grew by 0.5% year-on-year to EUR 56.5 billion, driven by a 1.5% increase in arrivals from non-EU countries, which offset a 0.6% decline in imports from EU countries. The rise in imports was mainly attributed to higher arrivals of food and live animals (21.5%), raw materials excluding fuels (8.7%), and machinery and transport equipment (4.8%). Meanwhile, exports fell by 2% compared to a year earlier, to EUR 66.75 billion, with shipments to both EU countries (-0.9%) and non-EU countries (-3.6%) declining. Notable export contractions were seen in mineral fuels, lubricants, and related products (-20.5%), chemical products (-3.2%), and manufactured goods primarily classified by raw materials (-2.9%). For the first half of 2025, the Netherlands recorded a trade surplus of EUR 64.19 billion, as imports rose by 1.2%, while exports declined by 0.4%.
