The Netherlands’ trade surplus widened to EUR 12.13 billion in September 2025 from EUR 11.46 billion in the corresponding month of the previous year, marking the largest surplus since March. Exports rose 2.1% to EUR 67.57 billion, supported by higher sales to EU countries (5.5%), although sales to non-EU countries decreased (-2.7%). Among commodities, exports grew for machines and transport equipment (7.6%), food and live animals (6.3%), and raw materials (5.9%). Meanwhile, imports increased by 1.4% to EUR 55.45 billion, driven by higher shipments from EU countries (3.3%), while shipments from non-EU countries dropped (-0.4%). Notable import increases included arrivals of beverages and tobacco (35.9%), food and live animals (11.7%), and mineral fuels and lubricants (4.7%). From the January-September period, the Netherlands' trade surplus narrowed to EUR 90.87 billion, compared with EUR 93.79 billion in the same period last year.
