How it works

Weight in grams = Weight × Unit factor Pure gold = Weight in grams × (Karat ÷ 24) Melt value = Pure gold × Spot ÷ 31.1035
Worked example

Ten grams of 24K gold at a $2,400 spot price is worth 10 × $2,400 ÷ 31.1035 ≈ $771.62. At 18K (75% purity) the same piece contains 7.5 g of pure gold, worth about $578.71.

FAQ

The spot price quotes US dollars per troy ounce (31.1035 g) of pure gold. Convert your weight to grams, multiply by the purity (karat ÷ 24) to get pure gold content, then multiply by the spot price per gram.
24K is pure gold (99.9%). Lower karats are alloys: 22K is 91.7% gold, 18K is 75%, 14K is 58.3% and 10K is 41.7%. Only the gold fraction carries melt value.
They are traditional gold weights still widely used in bullion markets: one tola (South Asia) is 11.6638 g and one baht (Thailand) is 15.244 g. The calculator converts them to grams automatically.
Usually not exactly. Dealers buy below spot to cover refining and margin, while jewelry often sells above melt value for craftsmanship. Use the result as the metal-value baseline for negotiating.
Those are the most-used quote currencies for physical gold in South Asia and the Gulf. Melt value is converted from the live XAU/USD spot using the USD cross, so the result is not shown until that rate is available — you will not see a dollar amount flash for a rupee or dirham account.
The formula treats 24K as karat ÷ 24 (pure). Labels show 99.9% fine, which is how bullion is typically sold. Lower karats use the same ratio: 22K is 91.7%, 18K is 75%.
